December Rain 3

Travelling on the bus footboard is courageous, energetic, adventures, fun filled and not everyone can do but the costliest price for it is life. After the recent incident (four students travelling on the overcrowded bus were killed in an accident on early this month), the court had advised that the student travelling on the footboard caught more than once can be expelled from the institution and the government arranged lots of MTC staff members to monitor and regulate this. I am surprised why the court had not strengthened the order like "all the buses should have a door and it should be closed?". Punish the authorities instead of the students. It is OK, there is no single solution that can be agreed and applied everywhere. It is very common for the buses to stop about 100 meters away from the bus stop making people to run behind the bus in most of the stops. One of the saddest parts of it is the old people waiting for the bus. Many of them are not really in a position to

iTunes 11 Frustrations

Though Mac and iPhone/iPad has lots of lovely things, they still frustrates when some of the common action I do that are not allowed. I don't find an option to group installed Apps. I have to search for already installed apps if I have to remove few of them.  When I have an update for an App, I am unable to remove the App without updating  I couldn't read the name of the book, if it is a lengthy name. If I could list them one per line then I could read but I don't have an option to change the view.   Sync Movies: I just wanted an option to sync selected movies. The options like 1 most recent, 3 more recent are useless for my style.  I added a new contact in my address book and it didn't sync with the iPhone. I found Mac, iCloud and ldap accounts are configured for contacts. I removed iCloud and ldap then the sync was proper. Of course, it should be my misunderstanding of the working of it. Trashing the lovely birds

I am a fan of Dangerous Dave game. We used to play this game in our collage computer lab. On a NovellNetware-DOS mode this game is really one of the coolest of its kind. The sound/audio - not the background music, the colors - not 16+ bits depth, the animation – not with great video adapters and the levels etc., are all pleasing and the game is very addictive. Of course, the thrill of copying it back in our login after it was deleted by our professors and playing it without getting caught (probably they let us play) was real fun. Last year, when I was cleaning up the old CDs and I found this game in one of the CDs. I copied in my laptop with windows XP and it didn't work. I just deleted game. Angry Birds is the first game I played on the iPhone. Few of my friends here used to appreciate its UI design. We talked about the algorithms involved in the game. We wondered how well the memory management is done as we never found it hanging. I guess few even bought the game. I liked th

Joel Osteen

I used to watch God TV for the sermons of TD Jakes, Joyce Meyer and one more person (I forgot) in my college days. Of course, that was no youtube time. Though I trust God, I am not a religious person, neither I wish to hear any religious talks. I used to listen to these people for just one single reason: The energy that showers with the things they wanted to say. Now, after many years, I wanted to listen to them again – again with no intention of getting the religious content. But then, I have forgotten their names. I vividly getting the picture of them but that is not sufficient for finding something on the internet. I googled it with random search texts like "Christian Sermons" and quickly found Joyce Meyer and TD Jakes. I couldn't get the name of the third person, though I vaguely remember that his name has "d" and "f" and there is "ff" or "lo" sound somewhere (Any help from you?). But what I found on this search and feeling gif

For you, a thousand times over

There could be few but I am yet to hear about the movie which then become a book. It should be a tough job. Pictures speak louder than words and so once the picture is out, it is hard to make them into words. Words enjoy their supremacy when the image that they create doesn't exist or yet to be seen by the world, only the writer's mind sees it. The reverse too is chanllenging. Making a book into a successful movie is also not a easy job. The story is already known, scene by scene. The book writer enjoys creating the scene, the  environment, using words for few pages for every scene. But in the movie, it is almost always goes unmentioned, hardly a second to show the background of the scene. For example, A tea cup; a beautiful tea cup; a beautiful tea cup with hot tea; a beautiful white colour tea cup with red roses printed on them...; In the movie, you can see the teacup, no mention of it, it is upto to you to see the details. I watched the movie The Kite Runner   directed

The Kite Runner

Usually, I buy and read book suggested by my friends but no one suggested me to read the book "The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini". I neither heard about it before I accidentally bought it. I was looking for the books I planned to buy in the Chennai Bookfair 2011 and I found this book . There was something attractive, though it was not as beautiful as of many of the books cover design, it should be the cover of it, because all I could see was only the book cover. I took it in my hand and asked myself, should I buy this?, yes was the answer and I bought it. I completed reading this book last week, after keeping it the shelf for almost 2 years. I am glad I got this book. It is one of best books I read in the recent years. The phrase " For you, a thousand times over " lingering in the mind is the proof that I really enjoyed reading this book and moved so much ;) " I became what I am today at the age of twelve, on a frigid overcast day in the winter of 1975 &

Gandhi: The Story of My Experiments with Truth

I love the strong tea. It doesn't taste that good when you get in the Indian train. I still buy it and drink. It is the pleasure of holding the paper cup and feeling the warmth of it. It is the sweetness of feeling the cup between your lips. It is the delightfulness of the soft breeze and the sound of the moving train. And top of everything, a good book in your hand of accompany you. I went to Kerala to attend one of the weddings last week. Since the journey started at 15:30 hours, I had a great amount of time in the evening. Though, we spent most of the time on chit-chatting, I still managed to get sometime to read the book. I had "The Devil and Miss Prym" by Paulo Coelho and "The Story of My Experiments with Truth" by Mahatma Gandhi. I chose Gandhi's book as it was one of the long pending books that I wanted to read.

Random Reminders

Such is the strength of your mind, such is the beauty of life - you never know what it would bring the next, full of  surprises. You may be playing and laughing with your friends and it could be just a single word someone utter that would take you many years back. You don't have to plan for this going back, you don't have to be predefined to have that thought at that moment, in fact, you never can - it just comes. And the greatness of that is it can make your laughter into tears and tears into smiles. The kid crying for a chocolate, the curly hair of a girl, beach volleyball in the evening, the violet flower next to your campus, "The seasons in the sun", ... a whole lot of reminders, world of reminders. Perhaps that is why old is gold - you attach yourself into the everything of this world; you see your life in everything you see. How strongly they control your very moment of your time, your own emotional balance. You can never list all the things that you remember

iPhone: Emergency Call

What can you do if the iPhone Home button doesn't function? The old iPhone I use lost its Home button. Home button is used to bring the unlock screen. Fine, I managed it with either the Power button or the Volume buttons. Open an application and there comes the second problem. How do I quit the application? I need the Home button to quit and go back to the home screen. No way... just no way, power off the device and restart seems to be the only option. Can you imagine it, such a horrible situation? iOS 5 has AssistiveTouch feature but that cannot be installed in the older device. After reading few of the articles, I tried Emergency call option. It is somewhat OK solution now. Here is how it works. Open an application Once done, lock the screen with passcode Bring the unlock the screen Tap on Emergency call and tap on the return button Now unlock the screen and the previously opened application is closed Any software solution?    Kovil Pillai P.

பஞ்சம், படுகொலை, பேரழிவு: கம்யூனிஸம்

I read the book "பஞ்சம், படுகொலை, பேரழிவு: கம்யூனிஸம்" by Aravindan Neelagandan (அரவிந்தன் நீலகண்டன்). It once again proved that words have so much power. Regardless of whether the book has complete truth in it or not, it is impressive, very impressive in my recent readings. It broke all my positive opinion on communism. It destroyed Lenin and Stalin from my treasure of leaders. I started hating Nehru and his family. But then, the communist countries Russia and China are still greater ones as a nation. How do they achieve it? Why we afraid of them so much? Kovil Pillai P.

The Great Dictator - Charlie Chaplin

I was reading a Tamil book நான் நடிகன் ஆன கதை-சார்லி சாப்ளின் (சுரா, வ.உ.சி நூலகம்)  that I bought recently . I never thought Charlie Chaplin was a hero in real life. It was inspiring to read a book about him. I watched two of his movies "The Great Dictator" and "City Lights" after reading the book. Both of them are excellent. Kovil Pillai P.

Abiyum Naanum

I always believe that the Creator/creation of the world has the perfection in the design. The deepest 'nested ifs' of this design can never fail and nothing left for unexpected. Of course, though you can practice to be otherwise, either intentionally or unintentionally, I assume women are designed to have all the softer qualities and men to complement them. Adjusting with each other is the real challenge and I guess marriage provides the best of platforms for it. And that is why I believe the relation between husband and wife is the best of all relationships. In fact, I would say, married life is a battle between the two to adjust with each others' nature, apart from fulfilling the custom followed by the society. The real beauty of this battle is to have no loser. It is a failure of married life when one feels defeated. In retrospect, I am sure these cute silly battles would take part in gladdening the heart. To my belief, understanding and patience are the top two qual
