New Year Resolution 2014

A note on my year 2013 and year 2014.

Though there are few that remain unsaid, I wonder why this list is almost same as that of last year's list. I know I am not including those things that "I won't" do. Of course, that list too seems the same. ;) Interesting statistics on top 10 new year resolutions.

Special: Every time I finish reading a book, I felt an urge to read Thirukural. I am going to read Kurual throughout the year 2014 and many more years to come. 50 Kurals by the end of the year is the target.

Reading: I read lots of books in 2013 ( http://kovilpillai.blogspot.in/2013/01/my-books.html )and I feel it is too much for me and hence will reduce reading books and will try to find time to reflect on the things read. I may have to start using a eBook Reader. Mother Teresa, The Alchemy of Enlightment, Yanni Issai Poarali, Thamizhar Thalaivar, The Theory of Everything, Simply Fly, The Power of Now, Awakening India, Aram, Marmangalin Parama Pitha are my favourite books from year 2013.

Accounting: I am loving it. Thanks to "The Story of My Experiments with Truth" for the inspiration. I'll continue to do this. I skipped few major ones last year. I'll include them too this year.

Writing: I need to improve my writing skills. It is getting worse day by day :( Any tips?

Health: Awesome magical year. I just had one minor injury while playing cricket and one food allergy instance for half day. I didn't even struggle with common ones like headache, cold, fever... The weight stayed at 72 - 75 which is just perfect for me. I myself doubt whether I can ever get this sort of year in my life again :). Targeting 72-74 weight in year 2014.

Movies: I watched quite a lot of movies in 2013. Mr Perfect, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Amadeus, Les Miserables, Papillon, Lawrence of Arabia, Thevar Magan, Life is Beautiful, Meghe Dhaka Tara, Chittagong, 72 Miles Ek Pravas, Talk To Her,  Bachchan, It's A Wonderful Life are few good movies I watched this year.

Family: It is going to take the least priority as I wish to spend lots of time on the professional front (2013 is a wonderful year on this part).

Others: Listen to people a lot, setting up priority inbox for official emails, clearing junk contacts, using flat directory structure, using smartphone often are things that I am going to attempt. I will continue to ignore "personal things" (like wedding invitations) from social networks.

My Book Shelf - Year 2017

I find it difficult to get this reading order. And I guess it would be still harder to read them without changing the order. I may allow one or two new books to be included in this list, if required. Share book reviews and ratings with Kovil Pillai, and even join a book club on Goodreads.

The Power Game

Even if you count from the Homo sapiens time, it has been half a million years and from the caveman life to the one who attempts to control the universe, the progress is tremendous. A number of struggles that we have overcome are unimaginable. I am still not convinced whether all these are part of the Divine plan or the Nature adjusts (if at all something is required) itself to any change that takes place in it. As long as we believe in science, we can truly appreciate our power and the things we have achieved. The oldest of the power struggles can be the one between men and women. It is perhaps so subtle that we can’t even call it a power struggle. While we manage to fight against external things, this is something happening in our own race, and we haven’t had an answer yet. A coffee selling 10 times costlier than the price of it in a decade ago may mean the coffee price has been raised. But when you compare it with the price of everything, it is relatively the same. If you look ...
