2022: The Year In Review

Overall, 2022 is yet another fantastic year that I have enjoyed a lot.

Q1: I was WFH for the first three months and things were going as they were in 2021 - work, pets, movie watching. I was trying to start reading books and it was very hard for me to concentrate or find the appropriate time to read the book.

Q2 & Q3: After a long time, I started going to the office. I liked the WFH and I also liked the WFO. I was unusually busy with office work during that period. There were EXITs and new joiners in my team that kept things a bit tight. WFO includes commute time to the office. That was important as that would be my book reading time. I slowly started reading books regularly.

Q4: I kept myself extremely busy during this period. Busy was not necessarily on the right things, but was doing something every minute. Work at office, reading books while commuting and watching movies or playing with pets at home.

It wasn’t so great with the movie selection this year. I didn’t like most of the movies I watched, especially the non Tamil movies. However, there were a few good ones. Jana Gana Mana (Malayalam), 777 Charlie (Kannada, I am a pet lover), Anjaam Pathira (Malayalam), Jungle Cry (Hindi), Mudhal Nee Mudivum Nee (Tamil), Runway 34 (Hindi).

Most of the books I read were okay and some of them were excellent. 1) Good to Great by Jim Collins 2) Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson 3) Our Iceberg Is Melting by John Kotter 4) His Bright Light by Danielle Steel (emotionally disturbing). The Robe by Lloyd C. Douglas was unusual for my kind of reading.

I was regular on FB for sometime and then I thought I would check on Saturdays, but slowly failed to check it at all. I think I was bored with the contents inserted by FB. And still worse was my usage of LinkedIn.

I was decent with my expenses ;)

My Book Shelf - Year 2017

I find it difficult to get this reading order. And I guess it would be still harder to read them without changing the order. I may allow one or two new books to be included in this list, if required. Share book reviews and ratings with Kovil Pillai, and even join a book club on Goodreads.

The Power Game

Even if you count from the Homo sapiens time, it has been half a million years and from the caveman life to the one who attempts to control the universe, the progress is tremendous. A number of struggles that we have overcome are unimaginable. I am still not convinced whether all these are part of the Divine plan or the Nature adjusts (if at all something is required) itself to any change that takes place in it. As long as we believe in science, we can truly appreciate our power and the things we have achieved. The oldest of the power struggles can be the one between men and women. It is perhaps so subtle that we can’t even call it a power struggle. While we manage to fight against external things, this is something happening in our own race, and we haven’t had an answer yet. A coffee selling 10 times costlier than the price of it in a decade ago may mean the coffee price has been raised. But when you compare it with the price of everything, it is relatively the same. If you look ...
