2021: The Year in Review

It looks like I have to repeat my previous year’s post. Well, perhaps everyone feels the same - 2021 is an unusual year. It is a really unusual year for me in a different sense. I didn’t read books, especially after the January 2021. I didn’t do my regular exercises throughout the year. I spent less than 300 mins (avg. less than a minute per day) in the sun. All three is rare. In fact, this could be the first time since I started them. And the worse, there was no reason for why I didn’t do in year 2021. So obviously, I am going to work on these three in year 2022.

The best part of 2021 is the amount of the time I got to spend with the pet animals - Pug, Rabbit, Parrot, and Pigeons. My dad took care of all the cleaning work and made things easy for me. My Pug dog is my all-time favourite and the Rabbits are this year’s favourite. It is really fun playing with them.

Despite the lack of physical activities, my weight stayed in 70-74 range, my favourite. I honestly don’t know how. Started year 2022 with 5 push-ups, and I am sure I will continue to do some activities ;)

It has been a long time since I prepared my last reading list. I hope I can prepare one this year. Stranger Trilogy is a decent one, and I am disappointed with Lean In and Chronicles.

I spent lots of time at work and took sometime to watch Tamil soap opera - Nadaswaram with my mom and read news in Google News in the mobile app. Basically most of my times went looking at one of the three screens ;)

Lots of my teammates got married in 2021 and so the gift bar is one of the tallest in the graph. Pet expense is also very high, and it has become usual now. Before COVID, the food bar would look like that of the current year book bar. I ate lots of sweets this year as well. Perhaps I should rename it as sweet category. Book change is a controlled one and the travel expense needs no reason.

We had COVID and dengue at home. It was tough but recovered. I heard about COVID losses throughout the year, like 2020, from the people I know, at times it was heart-wrenching and unacceptable :( I wish this ends very soon.

My Book Shelf - Year 2017

I find it difficult to get this reading order. And I guess it would be still harder to read them without changing the order. I may allow one or two new books to be included in this list, if required. Share book reviews and ratings with Kovil Pillai, and even join a book club on Goodreads.

The Power Game

Even if you count from the Homo sapiens time, it has been half a million years and from the caveman life to the one who attempts to control the universe, the progress is tremendous. A number of struggles that we have overcome are unimaginable. I am still not convinced whether all these are part of the Divine plan or the Nature adjusts (if at all something is required) itself to any change that takes place in it. As long as we believe in science, we can truly appreciate our power and the things we have achieved. The oldest of the power struggles can be the one between men and women. It is perhaps so subtle that we can’t even call it a power struggle. While we manage to fight against external things, this is something happening in our own race, and we haven’t had an answer yet. A coffee selling 10 times costlier than the price of it in a decade ago may mean the coffee price has been raised. But when you compare it with the price of everything, it is relatively the same. If you look ...
