The wheel, the well — You can be a magic

The Wheel:

Learning to ride a bicycle is one of the greatest pleasures of childhood days. Isn’t? How could you express the joy of your first ride — when you realise that the supporting person is just running without touching the bicycle? The “I made it” moment. Pure bliss!

It is all about getting the basics right: Sit and see straight, hold the handlebars, pedal smoothly. Of course, the ecstasy is not doing the basics alone but doing all the stuffs that are beyond basics. You do a hundred and one things with your bicycle that doesn’t fit into the written science of cycling. Do you know where the real joy is? It is in doing something confidently that defies the basics and standards. It is crazy at times and glory at other times — that doesn’t matter, what matters is that you are doing it.

The Well:

It is really hard if you have to learn swimming in the well. Drowning even few inches will show how close the death is always. What a joy it is when you make your first swim from one side to the other! The “Hey, water! I conquered you.” moment. Boundless joy!

It is again getting the basics right: Learn floating. Kick your legs and make strokes with your hands. It doesn’t stop there. On a rainy day, you jump into the well full of water and pick the stone from the bottom and it is that moment that is heaven. Do you know where the real conquering is? It is in doing something boldly and letting your heartbeats feel the thrill of it. It is funny at times and nasty at other times — that doesn’t matter, what matters is that you are doing it.

You = Magic:

What I have mentioned as basics with bicycle riding and swimming need not be correct. You can excuse me for that as my point is only about going beyond the basics to experience the supremest joy of whatever you are doing.

It is very essential that you learn the basics. Though basics are designed to learn something systematically, they are primarily aiming at breaking the fear inside you and letting you do the things confidently and courageously. It is unfair to be content with just basics and live. Part of this world is too good at praising you for just doing the basics. No, you shouldn’t fall prey to those enticements. That will make you yet another junk in this world. That is not the way of life. That is not your life.

The step by step things won’t work forever. So drop them and bet on your instincts. Be passionate about whatever you do, whatever you wish to do. Be brave. Act. True passion is capable of attracting magic moments and your magic moments are your identity. Millions of people have proved their identity. You can also do your magic and then you yourself become a magic. You become a life in this world.

Start within. And now.

Ask, “How long am I going to wait before I demand the best of myself?”.

New Year Resolution 2015

Another new year, another ( same! ) set of new year resolutions. I wanted to read Thirukural and set target 50 last year but couldn't achieve it. But then I used one Kural in my every blog post . New Year Resolution List: For year 2016, I should shorten it to at least 1/3 of this list. At least, make it more readable ;) Reading Books: Book reading is going to be reduced this year. I am planning to reread few of the books I read last year. Of course, will find time to read books suggested by friends. I have got Bhagavad Gita tamil version from my friend and might read this before the end of 2015. I Am Malala, The Last Temptation of Jesus Christ, Mossad, 'The Madman, The Forerunner, Spirits Rebellious', Yudhargal Varalaarum Vaazkaiyum, If You Meet The Buddha On The Road Kill Him are few of the books I enjoyed reading. By the way, I have changed the FB album title from "Books I read" to "Books I read - Not To Be Shared" ;) Accounting: How difficu...

My Book Shelf - Year 2017

I find it difficult to get this reading order. And I guess it would be still harder to read them without changing the order. I may allow one or two new books to be included in this list, if required. Share book reviews and ratings with Kovil Pillai, and even join a book club on Goodreads.
