The unconscious learning

I got a call from the online shopping delivery agent in the morning. I had some work and I told him that I would pick it up in the afternoon as he would be available till 14:00 hrs in the office premises.

My mom used to give rice water to the cows. She would keep the rice water vessel near the gate and some cow would drink it. She is still doing it, though now and then she has to buy a new vessel.

It is not unusual for me to forget to pick the order at the main gate while coming in the morning. Either I get reminded of it later or it got delivered at the mail room. That is okay. Isn’t?

I wonder where she learnt the practice of giving tea/coffee as well as some money to the electricity service person/gas delivery boy/… I usually tell her that they get salary for their service and ask her whether it is a kind of bribing.

It is amazing to see the volume of packages delivered everyday in the campus. It is because of the increase in the employees count as well as the ease of online shopping. I feel the job is easier for the delivery agent who visits the companies than those delivering articles at the individual places.

She always give the morning tiffin to the street sweepers. Though I don’t bother about giving, I always have some fear. After all, this state is not yet the safest. Of course, she knows it better than me as she read all the pages of the newspaper and hear the stories from our neighbours.

It was about 12:30 when I reached office and I was hungry. Out of curiosity I asked the agent about his lunch. He told me that he would return to his office about 15:00 hrs and surrender the “return items” and then would go for lunch.

Mom, I always believed that you were the last person who could teach me something that of a greater value. Today, I am thinking of doing something that I never felt I wish to do.

My Book Shelf - Year 2017

I find it difficult to get this reading order. And I guess it would be still harder to read them without changing the order. I may allow one or two new books to be included in this list, if required. Share book reviews and ratings with Kovil Pillai, and even join a book club on Goodreads.

The Power Game

Even if you count from the Homo sapiens time, it has been half a million years and from the caveman life to the one who attempts to control the universe, the progress is tremendous. A number of struggles that we have overcome are unimaginable. I am still not convinced whether all these are part of the Divine plan or the Nature adjusts (if at all something is required) itself to any change that takes place in it. As long as we believe in science, we can truly appreciate our power and the things we have achieved. The oldest of the power struggles can be the one between men and women. It is perhaps so subtle that we can’t even call it a power struggle. While we manage to fight against external things, this is something happening in our own race, and we haven’t had an answer yet. A coffee selling 10 times costlier than the price of it in a decade ago may mean the coffee price has been raised. But when you compare it with the price of everything, it is relatively the same. If you look ...
