Let the donkey be donkey

Only the soul that accepts suffering in order to keep its work unadulterated can produce the work of genius. Only the rawness of the wholehearted work can let the magic of creation shine through. You did hear about Mozart. Didn't you? One of my college-mates is very fond of his works. I just know the name from him and nothing else - until recently. I got a chance to watch the movie "Amadeus" few months ago. A very good biographical movie about Mozart that depicts how he kept his originality in the midst of difficulties and became the musical genius. I felt like listening to every single bit of his work after watching the movie.

You won't find a religion with no part for music in it. Will you? No science will offer you better solution for your inner turmoils than music. Such is the supremacy of music and its profound impact in our lives. I was talking to few of my colleagues during one of our lunch times. They were talking about music, specifically Talat Aziz and Jagjeet Singh's work. They were talking about Gazhals (if you don't understand the language than the whole thing is music. isn't?) effusively. It was very inspiring. They spoke from the heart. I requested them to suggest a few that I could listen. I thought I would get addicted to music so soon. I did listen but not more than a minute or two - not just once, I tried it many times but with the same result.

Kovil: Vellai Pookal by A.R.R Kovil: Yanni's One Man's Dream

Remember the Usurey Poguthey song? I first heard the lyrics when one of my teammates was singing it in his non-musical tone. I think we tend to like the songs that our friends (any form) like, at least we listen to it more often than our liking. The lyrics, playback singing, visuals and the music are all good in this song. The combination is easily superior than they enjoyed one without the other. Oru Naalil, Kanne Kalimane... thousand of songs like this that you can keep on listening.

Mozart, Beethaven, Bach, ... Yanni. No, please! They don't attract. I am sorry the greats - Thyagaraja, Muthuswamy Dikshitar, Shyama Sastri,... - I can't imagine listening to the carnatic music even for a minute. Peacock at Zoo, peacock at home and the peacock on your way to office might all be of same beauty but I am sure you won't pay equal attention to them. It is just nothing to do with the peacock. I understand only the mind is bounded by time. I'll wait. One day I'll become more of heart than the mind and then I can heed to these divinely creations. Till then...

Stop & Listen

Source: Email forward A man sat at a metro station in Washington DC and started to play the violin; it was a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was calculated that thousand of people went through the station, most of them on their way to work. Three minutes went by and a middle aged man noticed there was musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried up to meet his schedule. A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman threw the money in the till and without stopping continued to walk. A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him, but the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was late for work. The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year old boy. His mother tagged him along, hurried but the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk tur...
